Saturday 25 November 2023 - Joy in Repetition

A bit of a short blog this week, but beyond the betting I have very little to report, other than a surprise visit from the late American singer, songwriter, musician, record producer and actor, Prince, who had bought a drum machine I was selling on Facebook Marketplace.  This is where I usually disclose part of our conversation, plagiarised from a song lyric associated with the person I am purportedly talking to, but he was so softly spoken I could barely hear him.  Hopefully I will have better luck next week when I bump into the late English singer-songwriter, Nick Drake.   If this is your first visit to my blog I can only apologise. My winning streak continues.  Last week’s managerial uncertainty surrounding Notts County (now resolved - phew!) certainly did me a favour, in that my intended double on County and Wrexham would have been a loser (ironically not because of the Magpies, who won 4-2, but because of Wrexham, who lost 0-2).  Instead I doubled up...

Saturday 18 November 2023 - Safer Gambling Week

It’s Safer Gambling Week, but the best way to stay safe gambling is to follow this blog.  Last weekend’s recommended double was another banger, with Wrexham (2-0) and Juventus (2-1) brushing aside weaker opposition and both teams climbing to second in their respective leagues.  I have now tipped seven winning bets out of fourteen for a strike rate of fifty per cent.  That’s not bad for an amateur, and had my reader placed that “hypothetical” £20 on each recommended double they would now be sitting on a profit of £65.17.  That’s the kind of return on investment (23.275%) that Donald Trump would sell his soul for (again). This weekend is yet another international break, thankfully the last of the year.  I’m not a fan of international football and I suspect I am not alone in this.  So, having parked the majority of this weekend’s football, and regardless of my humble bragging above, please note that the following advice comes with a national wealth wa...

Saturday 11 November 2023 - Betting vs. Gambling and the Joy of Variance

Rainbows.  Once upon a time, if you saw a rainbow you would take a moment to stop and marvel at it.  “Look out the window, there’s a rainbow!”  I think I’ve seen three already this week.  There’s either a lot of gold out there or a ton of moisture in the air thanks to all the rain we've been having.  In reality rainbows do not exist, they are merely optical illusions created by the interaction of water and light in the atmosphere.  The same can more or less be said about this blog, it’s just a string of ones and zeros.  Both are beautiful in their own right, but one is slightly more illusionary than the other.  Where am I going with this?  I haven’t a clue.  I have a free half hour on a Wednesday afternoon and recently I have chosen to spend it writing about gambling.  But not for much longer. Dictionary.com describes gambling as “the act or practice of risking the loss of something important by taking a chance or acting recklessly”...

Saturday 4 November 2023 - Waterworld

Photo by Hannah Domsic on Unsplash Three winning weeks out of four in October.  But more of that in a moment. I know we’ve had a lot of rain, but I swear I saw Kevin Costner sailing a catamaran along Mapperley Top on Monday afternoon.  If it wasn’t Kev it was someone with the right idea.  Forget electric cars, boating is the way to go.  It’s almost as if some psycho allowed the water industry to be sold off and run for profit at the expense of maintaining our drains and sewers.  Imagine how bad the roads would be now if we had let that happen.  It doesn’t bear thinking about. Another thing that doesn’t bear thinking about: it’s less than eight weeks to Christmas.  It only seems like last week we were putting the clocks back.  This year I am asking Santa for world peace and a PlayStation 5.  There is more chance of me waking up to world peace on Christmas morning than there is a PS5. Last weekend’s recommended double was another winner, wit...
